He so adored his hair that he's griping and moaning about his lost locks to no end. (His hair was between chin and shoulder length and he LOVED it, considered it his best feature). He's seriously pining over a lost lost love here and I can't get him to leave the house without a hoodie in this hot spring Cali weather!

He is thinking about taking pre-natal vitamins to try and promote fast hair growth, but I don't know if guys are really supposed to do that (even prissy ones like him) even though they are just vitamins.

I am thinking that he could be creative and work with what he has while it is growing, but truthfully I don't know about styling short hair myself.

I know the process takes a few sessions to get full results but I'm unclear on something- is it like waxing where you remove it all completely, then the dormant follicles grow back hair, and you remove those 6 weeks later (or whatever the timing is for dormant hair)?

Or is it that each session works only on some of the active follicles and leaves others with hair still in them, and you just get 'thinned' hair after the first sessions and have to go multiple times to get it thinner and thinner?
I was surfing the 'net one day and found a site about cleansing your face with oil. The homemade recipe was olive oil and castor oil mixed together in a certain percentage for your type of skin. I've been so bummed and upset about my skin and getting older isn't helping matters at all! So I decided to mix a 70%/30% mix of olive oil and castor oil (more olive than castor) for oily skin and followed the directions to the hilt and low and behold.....my skin looks 1000% better and the best thing is that it's calmed down the redness in my rosacea skin! I absolutely couldn't believe it. No blackheads, no whiteheads, no milia, my bumps are going away slowly but I can tell they are not as big as they were and my skin looks so much better to me. I will have to find the link to pass this on, but if you google "oil cleansing method" it's either the first or second entry. I don't know if will work on everyone, but it sure worked for me. Mom was right, she always cleansed her face with this stuff that was oil based and she had great looking skin way into her early 90s before she became ill. I'm just one happy camper about my face!

Matching my natural color wasn't so easy, but we found one that was close and then dyed my hair lightly to match the extensions. The first day was weird and I ended up going back for more of a trim to blend my own hair in a little better.

Anyway, I feel so sexy and beautiful with this one simple procedure. My own hair is curly and auburn and tends to only grow to a certain length (my upper bra line) and I've wanted really long hair ever since I had it cut off at the age of 11. Now I have it again and I am ecstatic. It;s so fun to put up or let it all go curly (and my own hair is nearly identical tot eh extensions regarding curl factor) or braid or whatever. And since I let it go naturally curly now (something I fought sometimes before) I have a great hair day everyday now.

Not so crazy about how much 'hair' I lose everyday, but it's for a good cause.

I started using eye cream about 2 years ago (I'm now 26) and I still haven't settled on one I love. I like rich and creamy because that skin does flake a lot on me if I don't treat it kindly enough. I've tried ROC (didn't like the tube--its made of metal and got holes in it before I was even halfway through the tube), Loreal preventage (liked it ok, not sure what was in it though) and neutragena (a bit too thin for my liking).

I also have dark circles caused by blue veins, so anything with cooling/calming properties is nice too.

I've never been a real "lip gloss" kind of girl. The closest thing I've ever used are those 2-part superstay lipsticks that come with a gloss topper for shine. Those are fine. But regular lip gloss? Nope. It seems to vanish about 10 minutes after it's applied.

Until this one.

I now have 3 different colors of L'Oreal's Infallible 6-hour lip gloss. I bought 1, just to try. I liked it so much I bought 2 more in different colors. I tend to like those with a shimmer so I have "fiery" (red with gold shimmer), "raisin" (a shimmery plum) and "modern mauve" (a shimmery pink). ALL of these 3 shades are sheer enough to wear during the day in an office and also have enough shimmer to look nice at night. And I don't know how it works, but this stuff really does CLING to your lips.

I'm now a gloss convert! Well, for this one anyway.

Just thought I'd share this tidbit.

I used my usual temp red dye for the fall/winter, and this time it's stained my previously professionally highlighted hair pretty permanently. Normally, I go and get high/lowlights to go back to my natural blonde color in the spring, but I can't pop for the 150-ish bucks right now. Soooooo, if I try to dye it back to blonde with over-the-counter color, am I going to be able to get the red out, or am I just going to end up strawberry blonde? I don't want to attempt to weave/highlight it myself, so I was just thinking to do an all over color. I just don't know if I can go back to my natural 8N, or if I need to go darker to cover the red (which is faded, but still quite present).

Any advice on color, or product/brand, or anything? Thanks, Divas : ).

I've tried the over-the-counter shampoo "remedies" and it's still not better. In fact, I could swear that the flakes have gotten bigger. And, honestly, I'd prefer a non-chemical solution anyway. In case it helps, I currently wash my hair every other day (if I do it more often than that it gets really dry) and I only blow dry it once a week at the most. I don't use any styling products when I don't blow dry my hair (which is most days).

1. Put toothpaste on your pimple before you go to bed, should help reduce swelling overnight. Make sure it is the paste not the gel. Any brand should do.

2. Dab egg white on your pimple and leave on for at least 20 minutes preferably overnight, this is supposed to "Suck Out" the "Nasty Stuff"

3. Wash your face twice a day in warm salty water. This should leave your face oil free without aggravating the acne like soap.

4. Ice down the acne before bed, by morning it should be noticeably better. Works best on larger pimples that have not yet formed a head. Because it is a method of reducing the swelling and helping the acne "re-absorb" it should prevent scarring.

5. First wash face and then dab acne with cotton balls soaked in vinegar.

But it was messy and took a while. The recommendation was to "make a paste with water" - I tried, but couldn't get more that a runny mess... :)

I'm considering adding it to shampoo ~ do you think this is a bad idea? It seems like mild stuff, but I'm no chemist and the last thing I need is to set off an active ingredient and come out of the shower bald.

What are other uses for baking soda? Do you brush your teefs with it?

The fact that you can use this stuff for indigestion as well as clean your stove with it, well, that just amazes me ;)

I keep this in my classroom when I need to remove marker writing on things I need to keep and then when my hairdresser colors my hair, it cleans me right up. I know I'm supposed to condition them since they don't receive any of my scalp's natural oils, but do they need more than just a coat of plain old rinse-out conditioner? A friend recommended hair oil (ethnic), but I'm not sure what to do with that. Do I coat it and leave it on after rinsing out plain old conditioner? Do I wash the oil out before styling it? Maybe just a spray on conditioner enough to protect it from heat styling tools like curlers or blow dryers?

Reviews look pretty great and there are no parabens or icky chemicals in them but they are a bit pricey in my budget these days, just wondering if you like them or found there products effective.

I'm most interested in the Green Apple Peel and the Green Apple Antioxidant Serum.

sorry for the icky TMI here. ;) I have this ridiculously resilient blemish that won't disappear entirely.

A few weeks ago I got one of those horrific monster pimples. The kind that sprouted out of nowhere overnight and you wake up with this huge angry red thing on your face that you can't even conceal with makeup. When 8hr spot treatment was having no effect I used a hot compress and that made a world of difference. It seemed to draw out the irritation, removed the icky head and reduced the swelling considerably. I did that a few times during the day, along with spot treatment and got rid of most of the pimple.

The problem is that it won't fully go away. I still have this red mark and slight swelling, like the way a very small blemish or a blemish-to-be looks. I've tried salicylic acid, I've tried sulfatol gel, gentle soap, astringent, exfoliating, leaving it alone... nothing seems to have any effect. And it's been 2 or 3 weeks now. Any suggestions on what I can do to get rid of it?

Worth noting:
I have rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis and eczema (all of which I have creams for). Most of which are kept pretty under control and I can go for many months without a flareup since moving to the southwest. However, due to the high stress lately and the change of seasons here (winter to spring messes with me particularly badly) my skin has been on full-on crazy mode for the past month. For example, I haven't had to touch my eczema cream for probably 9+ months previously, but have had to use it twice in the past day. I also just had my period, which contributed to the skin issues.

Also worth noting that a dermatologist or doctor visit is not an option right now, due to money issues. So I need a home remedy or over-the-counter solution.

OK, Divas... here's a tough one..

My hair is naturally black, w/ some silver woven in, especially at the temples. It's long (below shoulder blades at longest point) w/ some long layers & soft bangs... fine, fairly wavy, fairly abundant. Pretty healthy, as long as I take care of it, & get it trimmed every 2 or 3 mnths.
Tends to be dry, & I moisturize the heck out of it. I frequently use neem shampoos & conditioners, & some richer conditioner from the ears down. I use a bit of Aveda Be Curly Leave In to strengthen & thicken it. For clarifying, a little baking soda mixed w/ plenty of water, & then rinsed well before shampooing- works great. (Clarifying stuff is a rip-off).

I don't do too much to stress it, styling wise. Mostly just blow dry & briefly style the hair around my face w/ a decent ionic dryer. Almost never use sprays, gels, etc. Except for a bit of indigo cellophaning, & a couple of henna experiments in the 80's, I've never colored it- I love my natural color.
So, anyway, that's the base I'm working w/.

I would LOVE to weave in some deep purple streaks- it's my best color, & goes w/ everything I wear. Makes my eyes look greener, too...
I ignorantly assumed that the lighter gray hairs would pick up dye a lot more easily than my black color, thinking I could finally easily add some lovely fun streaks. Imagine my disappointment when I found out that was soooooo not gonna happen...

The dilemma is, is that I really don't want to strip my hair, to get a few purple streaks in there. Is there any way to avoid that? It's OK if they're kinda subtle, but I would like them to be visible.
The other thing is, is that my skin is pretty sensitive. I'd love to avoid really heavy chemicals & strongly scented products, but realize that I'm not going to be able to go all natural w/ this process...
I should add that I'm OK w/ all the silver hairs not being covered, especially at the temples. They look pretty good w/ my dark hair.

Is this a pipe dream? Would I have to strip my hair to get some violet or eggplant streaks? Should I just give it up & slowly silver into that good night?

I'm OK w/ having a stylist do this... I just need to know what to ask for. They always want me to go w/ the usual caramel streaks they like to put in dark hair, & that's definitely NOT me. Would clash w/ my pale skin, & the colors I wear, too.

It looks like I may soon have the opportunity to get some cosmetic surgery myself. It's always been way out of my budget and my personal principles have gone back and forth and forth and back over and over again. However, I just picked up a personal chef client who happens to be a plastic surgeon and when I pseudo-jokingly suggested we work out a trade, he responded quite favorably.

Anyway, here's the deal. I'm in the process of losing weight. I've already lost about 12 lbs and want to lose 15 more, which would put me at 135 lbs at 5'7. I want to keep my curves and I have no desire to go back to the skinny waif I was before I had four kiddo's. However, the more weight that I lose the more extra skin I create. And my boobs are shrinking as well. I was an ample "C" cup, and am now a small "C" cup, probably soon to be a "B", but again there's the extra skin issue. Like I'm deflating....*sigh*

So, along with the tummy tuck I'd like to get (to get rid of the extra skin), I'm considering a boob job. But, I have a good friend who had one and she says her nipples are no longer sensitive at all. And well...I LOVE having sensitive nipples! I want to look good, sure...but I want to FEEL good, too. So, I'm curious as to anyone here that might've had breast implants and didn't lose any sensation. Is there a method to prevent that, or is it just a random thing dependent on the individual as well as the expertise of the surgeon?
But alas, the cost got the better of me, I simply couldn't afford $50 a month. So I tried other facial washes with no success.

I just recently found "Klear Action" in the store... supposably it's a generic version of Proactive. Has anybody tried this? It's $30 cheaper than Proactive, which is a big plus, but I am tired of buying different cleaners. Just wondering if anybody here has actually tried it?

i saw a fashion magazine suggest using a product containing salicylic acid to help treat ingrown hairs that develop after waxing. i normally exfoliate using a scrubby glove in the shower, but this only helps a little bit. so i recently started using this neutrogena acne lotion on my bikini line to help with the ingrown hairs and bumps that accompany them, and it is really helping to prevent ingrown hairs and treat those annoying and long-lasting red marks that accompany them (especially after you pull the hair out with a tweezer). i especially like that it's a gentle, moisturizing formula that doesn't cause irritation to sensitive skin, perfect for using in the bikini area, as opposed to most salicylic acid products which contain alcohol. i scoured the drugstore shelves to discover this product and was pleased to see it get such a good writeup on http://www.cosmeticscop.com :

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment ($7.99 for 2 ounces)

Why we love it: Along with Clearasil Daily Blackhead Control Pads with Natural Sea Salt ($7.99 for 80 pads) and Olay Total Effects Anti-Aging Anti-Blemish Daily Moisturizer ($18.99 for 1.7 ounces), this is the only well-formulated BHA product at the drugstore. It contains 2% salicylic acid along with anti-irritants and antioxidants. Find it!

What we said: Gets Neutrogena back into the BHA game, and it’s about time! Most of their previous BHA products either contained irritating ingredients (particularly alcohol and menthol) or had a pH that was too high for effective exfoliation to take place. This version’s pH of 3.4 comes in a nearly weightless silicone base that includes antioxidants and anti-irritants. Although the inclusion of fragrance and coloring agents is a slight disappointment, it’s a relief that Neutrogena omitted menthol or its derivatives, making this an all-around ideal BHA lotion for skin of any type battling blemishes.

A friend introduced it to me, and while I have only used the Restorative Hair Treatment, I am very satisfied with the results. I can't wait to try the shampoo/conditioner.

I have curly, frizzy hair and Ojon is the only thing that controls the most severe frizz and fly-aways. It smells good and when I use it as a deep conditioner and then wash it out, my hair is baby soft for a few days! It doesn't make my hair straight and shiny like in my fantasies but it controls the frizz like it says it does. :)

The smell is unusual. . . not unpleasant. . . but different. Kind of like fried peanut butter. It's kind of pricey (I get it at Sophora where a big container is around $50) but you don't use much and mine has lasted me pretty long (and I have a lot of hair!)

Anyone else try this product or anything else from the Ojon line?

just got a mirena iud today. thought i'd post my experiences with it if you ladies would like to hear about it. i know when i was considering it, it helped to hear how people were experiencing their iuds and helped me to make an informed decision. and maybe i can help give an honest account of how it's affecting my body.

so, as far as the insertion goes....yes it did hurt. i said "ow, ow, ow....that hurts". but the painful parts (of which there were, like, 3 or 4 times of intense and sharper pain) each lasted for no longer than, say, 15 seconds, 20 at the most. i wasn't writhing in pain for hours and hours. the whole thing was over in 5 minutes. the things that hurt were this measuring device to make sure my cervix was deep enough for the iud to go into and then there was this device to hold the cervix open and then the actual insertion. those were the moments that it hurt the most. when everything was being removed (speculum, etc)....there was some bad cramping as the iud was "settling". i felt dizzy and slightly nauseous. all of this was not out of the ordinary. in fact, my doctor handled me and the whole experience so incredibly well. had me lie back, got a cold compress for my head and some cold water. after laying back for awhile (like 10 minutes) the iud settled in. i couldn't really feel it, but my body was sore from the poking and prodding. DO take ib profen before you do this. i did and it helped more with the body aching than the insertion pain. the whole appt was done in a half hour.

so, now it's 4 and a half hours later. i started cramping again (like intense period cramps) and had forgotten to take more ibprofen. after taking them, the cramps are subsiding. but this also is "normal". i can't say much yet about spotting because i am also currently on my period. they prefer you to either be on your period during the insertion (something about making sure you're not pregnant and also the cervix is a bit more dialated than usual).

my doctor has the same iud and has had it for 3 years. she is happy with it and was very encouraging for me to talk with her about any questions or concerns i had. which makes me feel great. also, i would recommend that people check with their insurance to see if it's covered or not. i have kaiser (i know....people hate hate hate it...) which i have never ever had a problem with and my iud was completely covered. i only payed a 25$ copay. that's it.....i had no idea and had been prepared to spend 300-400.

so....i can keep people updated on my experiences if anyone would like me to or would find it helpful.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_Cleanse

I used to do this for 3 days every few months back in my 20's. Then I got into having and raising kiddo's and neglected to keep up with it. Anyway, I decided to do it again 5 days ago, and this time I'm going for the full recommended 10 days! The first 3 are the hardest, which is why I didn't ever try for the full 10 days before. But this time around I discovered that day 4 and 5 could be fantastic as long as I could get through day 3. Day 3 is when your body really begins letting go of everything, and yes, I do mean EVERYTHING! Be sure to have a nearby bathroom at all times on day 3...nuf' said.

But now, at day 5, I feel fantastic! I did alter it a bit because my biggest gripe was in having no variety of flavor, so at night just before bed I've been having a cup of hot broth. Usually Bragg's Amino Acids and hot water. And in the morning I've been having a cup of hot tea (just couldn't give up my morning tea), which has turned out to be a good thing as it stimulates my bowels *just enough*. One of the not-so-wonderful side effects of this liquid based cleansing is that it can cause constipation, so a cup of hot tea just keep things moving right along.

Anyway, in 5 days I've lost 10 pounds! I actually lost 12, but gained back two because some of what I initially lost was just water weight. I also stepped up my exercise routine and have most likely replaced some of that lost weight with re-found muscle. I've lost many inches, but have chosen not to measure myself, preferring instead to let how my clothes fit determine where I'm at. I've received so much positive feedback and three close friends have also decided to try this after seeing how great I look and feel after just 5 days!

A few of the unseen benefits have been that I've lost all desire to drink alcohol (probably helping with weight loss as alcohol can pack on the pounds like you wouldn't believe!), and since I'm not drinking alcohol I haven't craved any cigarettes (I was one of those "only smoke when I drink" folks), and I feel much more mentally alert and my sleep schedule has stabilized to some degree. And well, I just feel good. I miss food, and will be grateful to partake of it again, but I don't feel hungry or tired or lacking in anything. Getting rid of all these toxins and inflated fat cells--and seeing the immediate results-- has motivated me to take much better care of myself in general and hopefully it will have at least a few lasting results.
Sodium Laurel Sulfate and Parabens are hugely common ingredients in beauty and health products, and they are known causes of multiple serious health problems, including cancer. Its up to all of us to decide here what we do, if we just deal with the risk (seriously, we face a lot of other very big threats too, right?) or get them out of our lives and find substitutions so that we have struck a whole group of things out that may lead to our unhappiness by injuring our health. Here's the question for this thread, and perhaps we can use this to look at the positive side of living in the information age: What are your favorite paraben, SLS, toxin-free health and beauty products?? I am dying to know! I cannot wait to see what you all post!:)

Here are a couple of my favorite healthy products:
1. Witch hazel, a couple of times a day is really improving my complexion
2. Drinking water, duh!
3. Avalon botanicals face scrub
4. Tom’s of Maine wintermint fluoride toothpaste Hurray!
5. Alba deodorant, lavender

On the bad list: Oil of olay (anything with sunscreen that’s not titanium!), Control Freak Ser
