What's it smell like? My husband hates the smell of tea tree oil. Sounds like this stuff might be worse!

Its stinky, but I bought some soap with neen (thank you violet) and I use it on my face everday and it has made such a difference. I like it because it contains neem oil, but it has a citrus smell....so its not so bad, however the other bar I bought is pretty stinky pie, but I have had such gppd results that I Think I may use it too!!!!

health food stores carry soaps that have neem oil in them. i was able to get some pure neem oil from a local herb store. they also put neem in toothpaste but they put other stuff in it so it isn't barffy tasting

some folks have mentioned online retailers such as

Would they have it at Whole Foods or any other health food store in the Bay Area (Would rather Oakland/Berkeley)?

              Thanks

                hey rose---

i got the pure oil from lhasa karnak the herb store. they have a store on telegraph (by moe's books) they also have another store on shattuck... they have a small selection of neem soaps (that smell yummy) and toothpaste.

whole foods didnt have the pure oil but they had the soap and toothpaste too.

auromere is a manufacture of many neem products---i think they have a website too.

                namaste!

I use the Auromere toothpaste and love it. It is more expensive (wow, its cheaper on their site tho!) than larger corp brands for a smaller tube, but it all balances out in the end since you only need to use the amount of a small pea to get the same effect as the others. I've been using the Fresh Mint flavor and haven't noticed much of a difference in taste, compared to Tom's of Maine, which I switched from when I found out they were bought by Colgate.

Lots of good info on their site. I think I'll try the soaps too, since others have given good reviews about it. Thanks!

I've been using a Neem soap onmy face since November, thanks to a recommendation here, and I LOVE IT. It's made a huge difference in regulating my combination skin, and I have less than half the break out issues.

          I got a Oatmeal.Neem combo soap bar...

re: the smell does fade quickly

This is probably more a function of smelling - we tend to seem to get "used" to smells in a room, but actually, it's more a function of your sense of small being overwhelmed (same way that a bright light can overwhelm the eyes). Once a small saturates or overwhelms your sense of smell, you kind of "tune it out." This is why someone who walks into a room may smell something right away, but someone who has been in the room awhile may not.

I think it smells like decomposing coffee grounds -

you guys inspired me to add it to my bath today - here's what I used to disguise the smell: essential oils of: frankincense, tangerine, peppermint, and keffir lime. My bath smelled great & I felt really great afterwards - esp cuz of the peppermint oil!

hmmmm, Dr. Hauschka makes hair and nail products with Neem oil and yes they stink, but the hair oil is nice ... but then so is the palm oil from Leonore Greyl and that smells a lot nicer. So maybe the Neem Hair Oil from Hauschka can become a skin oil. An auyerveda practitioner friend has convinced me to slather myself with almond/coconut oil. You've got me wondering if I should add the Neem Oil into the mix.

As I am liberally covered in moles...this appeals to me, please 'splain how stinky Neem oil made your huge mole fade. Did just the discoloration go? Was it a raised mole or flat mole?

it is a raised one on my calf. after approx 2 weeks of use it has shrunk more that 50%

i just use a drop of the pure oil on the area. not sure i would want to use the pure oil over a larger area. (stinky)

Ohmigawd....Thank you for sharing...this is amazing. I think I'm going to get some of the oil and make soap for holiday gifts. I realize the soap I make wont be the quality of the kind that can be bought but I think my friends and family will be happy that I made them something. Money is tight this year so I'm going to try to make soaps, candles, candies, and sew some things.

      Divas,

After reading this thread I took myself to the indian food store and bought some neem soap. Divas! Incredible, it is sooooo inexpensive and is working!!!! after one week my skin is clearer, and is not dried out. i actually enjoy the smell in a strange way. I will buy some of the moisturizer soon. I think with neem, and 2.5% benzoil peroxide or tea tree oil, any acne will be gone...

Okay, reviving an old thread... I'm interested in trying the Neem soap for my acne problem (see my Differin thread!) but wonder which one to use. Most products make me break horribly so I'm very nervous about trying anything new.

I looked at some of the options online and they all seem to have a lot of additive oils. My typical response to oils is NOT good. Anything with oil makes me get huge, deep pimples. For example, tea tree oil was horrible.

Anyone have a specific product they can recommend?

the orange and ylanylang one by organics. its not the actual real oils that break you out. its the refining part and mixing them with cheap synthetics. i cant do oil AT ALL.
the orange soap worked great for me though. if you dont like it for you face. you can use it on your body. so its not like a waste of $$$. but i think you will be happy with it.

also take a b vit supp. really oily skin is a sign of low b vits.

Well, after reading all this, I bought myself some Neem oil and cocoa butter with the intent of making my own cream. For now, though, I'm just mixing the Neem oil into a bit of Aveeno and applying it that way. I have to say, it's only been a couple of days and I can already see a difference in my skin. I have a bit of scarring from a bad sunburn and lots of red, splotchy areas on my face. Today, no red spots! So far, Neem is awesome.

WEll it has nothing to do with Neem oil, but if you want an oil free product that (IMHO) kicks a$$- go for the Origins Spot Remover. It stings when you first apply it to the spot, but only for a few minutes, and it clears them up in less than half the time.

I'm actually using neem oil for my skin disease. I also use neem soap and cream. I have a friend who is a hebalist, and she's got great products - Lisasnaturals.com. She has a fabulous catalog with items that aren't up on her website yet. I highly recommend contacting her for a copy of the catalog. Beautiful candles, soaps and oils.

I heard Neem Oil is great for psoriasis. I haven't found it yet to give it a try. My face seems to have calmed down since my latest eruption.

I bought some neem oil and have been using it on my psoriasis for about three days. The scaling's gone and it's healing really well.

Okay, I love Neem, it's done wonders for my skin and all. However, I would NOT recommend putting it anywhere near your eyes if you tend to be allergic to things. I used a Neem cream around my eyes the other night and when I woke up, my eyelids were swollen almost shut! It was horrifying! The swelling went down, but it was super gross and uncomfortable. So, use caution when using Neem products around the eye area.

What about facial freckles? I have tons of 'em and would love to see them fade a little! Would neem help? Which method would be more effective: just the soap or the oil mixed in with moisturizer? Is there any other way to use neem to fade freckles?

Been using the plain ol' Neem soap for about 4-5 days now and I'm not seeing any improvements in anything really. In fact, I'm starting to break out worse. However, my skin may still be reacting from coming off the Differin (about a week ago) so its kinda hard to tell. Thinking I may have to go back to my old pre-differin routine until it all clears up then try the Neem again.

It took a bit to see the Neem soap differences. ANd your skin is most likely having a hissy fit coming down from the Differin. Give it some time and try again. I really do like the neem soap, and I am a skeptical unbeliever about most everything.

i am soo confused. i bought something that calls itself pure neem oil and wanted to try it on some sunspots on my chest. the container says to mix with with liquid dish soap and warm water to emulsify.. i thought i was going to apply it as an oil directly to my skin and leave it there. are you all primarily using it as a soap?? sounds like i need to dilute what i have with something but am sure not using dish soap! thanks!! .. i guess i could call Rainbow...:)

I would look up the manufacturer's website to see if they give info on uses for the product you bought. I suspect that it's like the essential oils that are highly concentrated and need to be diluted with other mediums. Too much neem can be toxic, I read. Seems as though neem needs to be heated with other liquids to dilute. What company makes the item you bought? You might try doing a Google search to see what you come up with.

                        I find that Rainbow sells lots of items that are for the DIYer, so I wouldn't always assume that you can use the items, as is, off the shelf. I learned that the hard way. ;}

thanks for your help! i'm the type to just slap it on and regret it! ...yea, it looks like it needs to be diluted - it's like a thick pea-soup paste. - looks generic but now i see it is made by Organeem and there is a website..thanks for making me look more closely! ooh, and it DOES stink.. at first i thought, oh, it IS like garlic and peanut butter, not bad...but after inhaling it for awhile...could make one go a bit nutty....

I used it on my daughter's hand "neet" (in the slimy state) for months.

It helped allot with her ILVEN (genetic disorder causing horrible rash in one spot, like a crusty birthmark with no known cure)

I know that there was more improvement with that than with the medications that she is using now... She was traumatized by the stench though... (she is 9) LOL
