If you need visual make-up inspiration, do a quick google search on Robert Palmer videos of "Addicted to Love." I think that is the quintessential 80's over-the-top makeup look. Superdark, exaggerated, smokey eyes, luscious full red lips, cheek-hollow contouring for that "sucked in" cheek look. It works with either the slicked back hair (per the video) or with big, full hair.
