I don't know if it is rosacea or broken capillaries but I inherited from my mom. She has had laser twice now and they come back.
Any topical cream that would reduce the redness?

Re: Getting rid of redness
Mon, February 20, 2006 - 8:16 AMjenell i saw your pics from BM and noticed that you were sunburned.
so your redness can be a combo of sun damage (broken capillaries) and rosacea both.
in any event, before you get a professional assesment,
sunscreen, vitamin C serum, azelaic acid/liquorice root are safe way to go.
laser treatments are proven as not effective as cauterized capillaries burst to the surface in the adjacent areas fairly soon after the treatment.
plenty of water, bioflavonoids (vit P), avoiding extreeme temperatures, keeping the skin cool, avoiding spicy food and red wine also help keep the redness down.
hope this helps. -

Re: Getting rid of redness
Mon, February 20, 2006 - 1:04 PMEucerine makes a drugstore line of redness-reducing products, a SPF 15 day cream with a greenish tint to camouflage the red, a green concealer wand for areas that need more opacity- you use these under your foundation, a cleanser and night cream, all with a licorice derivative. Some other companies are adding anti-redness products- I think Purpose is supposed to be doing one, and Aveeno, but the Aveeno has been useless on me. I like the Eucerine day & night creams. -

Re: Getting rid of redness
Thu, February 23, 2006 - 8:56 PMI was using some Prescriptives anti redness stuff that I was trying on one side of the face for 4 weeks and nothing so I stopped using it.
I am pretty sure it is broken capilaries. I used to be really bad at taking care of my skin including never really wearing sun screen and burning quite badly.
Is there anything to use that will make the broken capilaries go away? Some days my skin is reder then others but the broken capilaries are always there.

Re: Getting rid of redness
Thu, May 28, 2009 - 11:02 PMYes, arnica is another possible option for this - but be careful not to apply to any broken skin. Not terrible, but may irritate in that case...

Re: Getting rid of redness
Wed, February 22, 2006 - 7:34 PMI've heard about topical antibiotic creams to deal with rosacea. I have a bit of redness on my cheekbones and usually just cover it up. My son has it big time, but he's only 14, I can't imagine it's the same thing. -

Re: Getting rid of redness
Thu, February 23, 2006 - 1:12 PMFor redness, not rosacea, try Aveeno Ultra-Claming Daily Moisturizer. I have been using it for about amonth now and it has really helped to even out my skin tone. I still have broken cap's around my nose, but concealer covers them. The cream is a bit oily, except on cold, dry days. So I use Clean & Clear blotting papers to balance it out. -

Re: Getting rid of redness
Wed, May 27, 2009 - 9:18 AMI've heard that some of the newer products with green tea and coffeeberry help reduce redness. They also have alot of antioxidants that benefit the skin.

Re: Getting rid of redness
Thu, May 28, 2009 - 3:29 AMI've had broken capillaries for many, many years. Mine are from the sun. I have tried pretty much everything, from cauterizing the
capillaries, to laser (both before IPL came out) and finally IPL. IPL, if done by someone who knows what they are doing can help.
But, you must stay out of the sun as much as possible and wear sunscreen.
But, there isn't anything out there that will get rid of them completely. I've tried a lot of products as well, that have promised to either get
rid of or reduce the redness and I've not had any luck. That last post about Aveeno sounds promising though. -

Re: Getting rid of redness
Thu, May 28, 2009 - 11:00 PMFor instant redness reduction, I suggest calendula lotion, or add calendula extract to your favorite moisturizer. It's the Visine of natural skincare.
Next up, try the rosacea serum over at skinactives.com.
I've had good results with both of these, especially the calendula (for general redness).
Broken capillaries are one of the side effects of aging. If you have a tendency towards them just think of it as something to deal with as part of your ongoing skin care regimen. That is, they may never go away 100%, but you can minimize them with good care & skin therapy.
