I can't find the link at the moment, but yesterday on the internet there was an article relating lip glosses to skin cancer. There didn't seem to be any scientific evidence of the link, but it basically it said that wearing lipgloss in the sun magnifies the sun's rays and damage your lips. The article went on and recommended using a lip balm with an SPF in it. One lady that claimed she had to have treatments for her skin cancer on her lips uses a lip balm with an SPF of 50.
Like I said, I can't find the link right now, but I'm sure that someone else can. Something to think about I guess

Re: did anyone see the article about lip glosses?
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 6:39 AMYes, I read that as well. I did have a skin cancer on my lips several years ago and it made me wonder. I never wore shiny lip glosses, though. I always wear opaque. I do now try to wear lip stuff with sunscreen in it, especially if I'm going to be outside.

Re: did anyone see the article about lip glosses?
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 9:02 AMI read it, and took it as yet another article to scare the crap out of us. Not that the facts presented in the article are necessarily untrue (though untested), but when the headline says 'lip gloss may lead to cancer' that's just sensationalism. Basically the lesson of the article is to use common sense. Lip gloss coats your lips to make them shiny and that can increase the effects of the sun (like a magnifying glass). So if you go outside, wear lip gloss with an SPF. If you're not going in the sun, regular lip gloss isn't going to hurt you.
