I was watching a show that mentioned some skincare products for cancer patients and wondered if anyone has heard of these.
Please tell me about your experiences and if they sound good, as my Mom has had a lot of skin issues from having chemo treatments.
Some of the side effects from cancer treatment is known as Palmar Plantar Erythrodysesthesia (PPE), Hand Foot Syndrome is a common side effect to certain types of chemotherapy. Patients may find that their hands and feet will become red and irritated, then will begin to crack and peel. My mom’s face looks like it was hit with shrapnel, cuts everywhere. The skin on her hands – mostly the fingertips has split open and she wears bandages on them. Her all over skin is very dry. We (my sisters) keep trying to find products that would help heal and rehydrate.

Re: skincare for cancer patients?
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 9:47 AMYour poor sweet mom! How awful.
I don't know if it would be intense enough for your mom's extreme condition, but I have had great results with Gold Bond Ultimate softening formula with Shea Butter. Doesn't leave a greasy feeling like Neutrogena's Norweigan.
Best of luck in finding some relief for mom!

Re: skincare for cancer patients?
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 10:22 AMI have heard about the Lindi products, but I don't know anyone who has used them. If they offer a guarantee, it might worth trying, so if for some reason they don't work, you can get your money back. Good luck with finding a product for your mom and healing blessings to her as well.

Re: skincare for cancer patients?
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 5:09 PMHi, I work with essential oils, and think lavender might work, but you should research this amazing oil. It must be high grade organic, and is used for burn patients. Some essential oils can disrupt medicine, so surf the net a bit and see what you find. If I find something I will send it along. I make a lot of my own products, it's fun, nourishing and a lot cheaper. Best wishes, Om shanti, Jody

Re: skincare for cancer patients?
Mon, March 17, 2008 - 5:30 PMI sell an amazing 100% natural line of Skin Care. I am concerned about any toxins that might be found in skin and body care, especially for a cancer surviver. It is very important that we all understand how the skin works and that most of what we put on our skin is being absorbed into our bodies. Many of the products we woman use, including "natural" products, are loaded with cancer causing chemicals.
Beyond this, I have yet to find any product that gives such great results!! And I've searched, I love variety! But I love a great, clean, active product with integrity better. This line will highly nourish, oxygenate and soothe your Mom's skin.
Check out my web site and feel free to call or e-mail with any questions. www.benefacial.com
I do Benefacial home parties where I educate on how to read skin care labels and the host get's free product and mini facial. -

Re: skincare for cancer patients?
Mon, March 17, 2008 - 5:59 PMI had cancer, hodgkins lymphoma, and went through 7 months of chemo last year. The diagnosis was preceeded by a year of severe paraneoplastic syndrome, which essentially resembled chicken pox over most of my body.
This healing cream is the only thing that helped www.ageless.co.za/products.htm. A bit on the expensive side, but worth it. I still use it, it's fading the scars.
I did not experience the same side effect from chemo, but used this throughout to heal the pox. Arresting the cancer itself stopped the paraneo-syn.
good luck and god bless

Re: skincare for cancer patients?
Mon, March 17, 2008 - 11:14 PMwhen my mom was going through chemo and got the cracked skin, she found just using pure cocoa butter to work best. unfortunately a lot of the so called fancy "natural" made stuff still can have an adverse effect with the chemo treatment due. So called essental oils and other fragrance additives that "natural" stuff have is really hard on chemo treated skin which is dying and shedding. She used plain glycrin soap, oil free moisturizer, oatmeal soaks. most of it was over the counter aveeno products or from our local health store. good luck. The good thing was once she was done with the chemo after a period of the skin still being red and peeling, her skin did go back to how it was before. -

Re: skincare for cancer patients?
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 8:26 AMI can see how Cocoa butter with no added fragrance would feel quite soothing to sensitive skin. And, it may be your best bet because of it's simplicity with just one ingredient. It sounds like Turtle has some unfortunate experience with this subject.
I'm responding here to the post, and the personal message turtle left me.
I sent my earlier response, because I felt it was important that anyone concerned about health understand about toxic ingredients found in skin care. Especially a cancer patient. In my research, I'm finding that much of the disease in our society is caused by many of these chemicals that are being used because they are cheap and the FDA say's if it's in small amounts, it's okay. But, we are using it everyday and in several different products and it is causing cancer and all kinds of other diseases. It's true I'd always like to sell product, but I only sell what I believe in. It's also true that I have no idea how any person using this product may react. My main concern was offering her something gentle and truly free of chemicals that in my experience and knowledge could help her skin.
I have a list of ingredients to avoid on my site that anyone can print out and take with them to purchase product anywhere any "health" food store. There are a few alternatives there that are at least clean. Or, if there are some of you that would be more comfortable with me posting them here, I'm willing to do that too.
I meant no disrespect.
And Turtle please don't leave ugly messages anymore. I don't deserve it. I am not a scumbag afterall. I am a loving being, doing my best. -

Hello Everyone,
Thanks for all of the input, though it did seem no one had experience with the Lindi skincare that I was curious about, so I am not going to get it. -

Ooops - hit the return button too soon.
My mom is older (81) and too sensitive to scents, so I don't think essential oils would work for her either. T Plus seems all the chemo doctors tell her she should not take any herbal supplements and barley drink herbal tea (go figure). hanks for the suggestions - I did look into all of them.
She does have a fairly advanced stage of cancer (stage 4) and is not expected to survive, which is hard enough for me and our family to deal with.
Theo / Turtle - a special thanks - you understood the parameters of what she's dealing with the best and I did get her off any scented soaps, laundry detergents..etc. and got her unscented glycerin soaps from Body Thyme along with some very mild shea soap.
One thing that has been helpful which was unexpected is by Eucerin - Aquaphor Healing Ointment. Here's the link: eucerinus.com/products/hb_aho.html
I just wanted to reply back with thanks to everyone and have this info available to anyone who may know someone who is suffering from cancer and the horrendous side effects from it. Everyone could use a little more comfort in their lives.
Thanks again.

Re: skincare for cancer patients?
Thu, April 3, 2008 - 8:44 PMOne of my oncologists told me about lookgoodfeelbetter. I just went to it for the first time. It's really aimed at women who have cancer who have never used products. The advice is pretty basic and actually counterintuitive to some advice I got.
I was advised not to polish my nails, to avoid exposure to the chemicals in polish and remover, while I was on chemo. I did anyway, about half the time.
To my skeptical eye, the site looks like cosmetic companies trying to get loyalty by gifting women at their most vulnerable. But I'm sure that some have been helped. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: skincare for cancer patients?
Fri, April 4, 2008 - 6:13 AMthat's too bad. The brochure made it look really helpful.
As an aside- most natural foods stores now carry a line of nail polish that doesn't have PVCs or toluene or whatever the offending chemical is in most nail polish. I don't know the name tho. -

Re: skincare for cancer patients?
Fri, April 4, 2008 - 10:50 AMGoing by all the advice I got when I was first diagnosed, and since I'm in what appears to be early stage remission, I think one must really do what feels best, but try to keep whatever you put in or on your body as simple and pure as possible. I'd avoid as many chemicals as possible. In the case of an elderly person, I'd probably put more emphasis on comfort than cure.
