I am looking to purchase an all purpose pair of sandals for myself...they must be comfy, supportive for wallking/hiking, AND be cute...do these exist? I have looked at all the Keen styles, and they are comfy, but not quite my idea of an all around super cute shoe...any ideas??? Thanks ladies!

I love tevas four strap Olowahu flipflop... www.rei.com/product/707196, amazingly supportive for walking and even I go out dancing in them ... also like the chaco, it's quite abit more supportive, Women's ZX/2. both are a little more outdoorsy but they are my stand bys

Chacos. I live in them. I abuse them. They withstand 100+ degree weather and 40 degree water for 4 months, 6am to 10pm, not many days off. When they aren't on my feet in the boat, they're hiking me around on a day off. Or, they're part of my outfit when I go out to the bar later that night.
Seriously, Chacos are awesome- I've traveled the world in them, and I've worn through about 4 pairs in the past 8 years, which for someone who uses them CONSTANTLY like me is pretty good...

And by the way, Keens are tough to get pebbles/sand/etc out of. Chacos are not.

I think Teva has some good sandals as well, I've just worn the Chacos for a long time.

I like the Teva flip-flops Bryndl recommended. I also have Chacos. I've had Teva sandals but found the Chacos fit better (try one each before you buy). REI has some styles of Chaco on sale right now, which is good because they're spendy.

Keens run small. I'm a solid size 11 and Keens don't fit me.

Holy crap, Chaco's run like 95 bucks.

      What?

They are worth it, and the price does very by style and website.
They seem comparable in price to Birkenstocks, which I wore for years. I've worn Chacos for 4 or 5 years now. They're awesome and wear very well.
        Worth it!

a few shoe brands that are worth the investment...IMO
          Teva
          Chaco
Dansko~ both the clogs and dress shoes
Merrill ~ their city boots are amazingly supportive & cute

all have outlasted and out worn any other shoe in my arsenal.... for perspective, I could probably shoe an entire African village with the shoes in my closet.

I agree with Bryndl. I'd like to add that I thought Birks were the thing for a while, until I realized that end the end of a day of walking in them my feet hurt. Tevas and Chacos are really supportive (the only difference for me is fit, which is why I prefer Chaco). My friend's sister is a bartender and works in Danskos, which I consider a great endorsement. Unfortunately for me my ginormous feet don't fit into Danskos so I can't try them (lol).

Cathy ~ I'm pretty sure Dansko's come in mens sizes too and the clogs really aren't built much differently than the womens... just a thought.

Chacos look great. Thanks, Star. I'm going to look into getting a pair. :-)

It offers medium or wide. Do you have any recommendations there? I have a wider toe box but do pretty well with most shoes. Narrow heal.

My current infatuation is for a pair of merrell slip on sandals that I picked up in Hong Kong ,of all places. They are specifically made to support womens feet by being constructed to support the most stressed areas of the foot when walking. I'm probably not explianing it very well, but have to say that they are light and ultra comfortable.I have the pesaro sandals.

A word about Danskos - they now produce their clogs in China. Sanita is the manufacturer that supplied them before - they are in Denmark. They now market their own shoes here in the States. I love my Sanitas! Expensive? Yes. But they are the only kind of shoes that I actually don't automatically kick off when I get home. They are that comfortable! Definitely worth the investment. And I'll never buy Dansko again.
      • Chacos.

        Ways to get them cheaper:

        1) check out last year's colors/styles.

        2) If you work for any outdoor organization, try to get them "pro-deal"

Munky, I have just the regular, and they seem to be okay. I'd go somewhere and try some on if you can before ordering though (REI, etc).

Like I said, the Tevas are good too- I dig them as well, but I have Chacos where the webbing is wearing through and they're still holding together. And like I said, I seriously abuse them.

Don't forget Sierra Trading Post- I've bought a bunch of 1/2 price Danskos, Keens and other good sandals for 25-75% off; usually last season's styles, but I recently got a pair of Keen slides for $35 that were in the new Garnet Hill catalog for $60.

I fully agree with Teva's four strap Olowahu flipflops - they absolutely rock! I loved 'em so much, I went out and bought several more pairs (now I think I have about five pairs now). Love love love 'em!

I also have some cute Simple and Born sandals, although both pairs took a while to get to the comfortable stage, whereas the Teva flops felt like they were made specifically for my feet from the very first step.

Another vote for CHACOS! I was wearing them long before they were called Chacos. My first pair finally bit the dust after 5 years of solid wear on and off the river.

The nice thing about Chacos is that they can be resoled if you wear the sole out. I always buy the Vibram soles as these work great for hiking! I also like the adjustable straps which can be pulled through the footbed to make the adjustment. If I'm travelling and my feet are swollen I can easily adjust the straps to accomodate the swelling.

I used to get mine on a pro deal which made them much more affordable. However, I found my last pair on eBay for $35! And, they were brand spankin' new, only worn once I think!!!

Thanks all...I have had Chacos, and they were always good for the water, but not cushy enough for longer walks...I love Earth shoes, but wasn't super into any of the current styles...I ended up with a really cute pair of Keens...they are kind of sandal mary janes, and much more narrow than any other Keen I have seen, with flowers stiched on the top and side, so prettier, but still super comfy...$80, probably could have gotten them cheaper online, but they were for Mother's Day...now I just need the warm weather to go with them!
