Hoping for suggestions....
I got off hormonal BC in the begining of feb and holy fuck my body is pissed. I got a copper IUD and it's been a pretty easy adjustment so far... Minimal spoting and cramping etc., but I feel crazy. read: depressed, fatigued, emotional and super bitchy.
I've heard it can take months to detox off the pill and I'm wondering what sort of supplement/ diet/ alternative treatments might speed it up and help me balance out faster. I've got the drink lots of water and get plenty of sleep bit, I'm needing something a bit more proactive and a lot quicker.
Thanks in advance.

If you have a good acupuncturist, contact them. Their treatments are known to help in regulating hormones and can give you some sound advise & direct you to what your body may need for supplements, herbs.. etc.

Mon, March 31, 2008 - 8:12 PMYoga. I was actually on the pill for a long time just to regulate my period....hmmm. Lets just make a looooonnngggg story short by saying when I started doing yoga, for the first time in my life I had a regular menstrual cycle without hormonal supplements. -

Re: any suggestions for balancing hormones after the pill?
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 9:33 PMBryndl, if you don't know of a good acupuncturist, I can get the name of one who is reportedly the best in this area. My friend is a naturopath and he went to her when he was dealing with amoebas and liver failure, and his ex wife went when she went through menopause and needed help. This woman is Chinese and works in the NW 23rd area. -

Re: any suggestions for balancing hormones after the pill?
Fri, April 4, 2008 - 8:26 AMI started taking Evening Primrose, and Don Quoix (sp), and also boosted my soy intake get my natural estrogen started again. I think it was Trader Joe's that carries a multi with herbal supplement for women that has all that you need in one pill.
Give it time, it may take up to a year for your body to balance out again. Watch your mood swings, I flew into horrible fits of PMS rage in the first few months after I quit the pill. My ex boyfriend probably didn't help any of that but I usually don't try to kick down doors on a regular basis. Also exercise a little bit more. Keep those post-pill pounds off and it stimulates your metabolism. -

Sat, April 5, 2008 - 7:29 PMi don't know specifically about after the pill, but maca is a superfood you can get in powder or extract and it is specifically used to support your endocrine system to function properly (ovaries are in there) -

Re: any suggestions for balancing hormones after the pill?
Sat, April 5, 2008 - 7:32 PMforgot to add, specifically look for a formula called HRT (hormone rejuvenation) it is an extract, one dropperfull a day, and it also has vitex, mexican yam, dandelion, raspberry leaf, blah blah... read this:

there is info on there about what each herb does.

herbal suggestions
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 1:14 PMYou can use Maca, it's an adaptogen, but a woman should not take Maca during her period. However, I think Maca is better suited to a woman who is actually in or approaching menopause, than for a woman who is still fertile.
As a holistic health advisor, I recommend that women who need to regulate their cycles after a miscarriage or coming off hormonal birth control use an herb called Vitex. The more concentrated extract form is ideal for the first 2-3 months, and then you can go on a normal dose of 400 mg daily once your cycle starts evening out, for maintenance.
Vitex has been used in Europe forever for this purpose. My fave brand is Solaray, as they "green screen" their botanicals for pesticides and herbicides, and they use standardized formulas.
EPO (evening primrose oil) is also good, as the GLA fat it contains assists with hormone regulation. I take both EPO (500 mg) and Vitex every day, as I am in my mid30s and trying to maintain my fertility for as long as possible. -

Re: herbal suggestions
Sat, April 19, 2008 - 9:16 AMBe careful with evening primrose oil- I have endo. & was told it would help reduce the problem- but it only made it more painful.
I have tried epo. on 3 separate occasions and had the same rather drastic result all 3 times. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
General suggestions.
Sat, April 19, 2008 - 11:09 AMIt does take a while, esp in my experience.
I find that sunlight, yoga, exercise, water, and a good detox helps. It's much easier to cleanse in the spring/summer.
Enjoy your IUD, and best of luck.
(It took me a while getting rid of the fluctuations from the Ring as well...)
