Beauty-related and definitely dive-related.
So… I need to learn how to make my neck the star of photos taken of me, even when I have no control over when the photo is taken or from what angle.
I've lost about 30 pounds in the last 2 years, and quite a bit of face/jaw. But when I look at photos, I can't see my own weight loss (slimmer face) unless I see a decent amount of my own neck. (Other people may see things just fine, but until I can borrow their eyes…)
I have long hair, which I don't intend to cut. sometimes it's pulled back, sometimes it isn't. Are there any "tricks" to holding myself with a good view of neck, just in case there's a camera nearby?

Sat, July 11, 2009 - 6:27 AMDon know about poses, but.... Remember to also powder your neck with same powder you use on your face. Otherwise, the camera flashes will reflect off of your face (off of the mica in the powder - it's in all powders, and esp minerals) & will not reflect off od your neck -- therefore making your neck appear darker or "in shadow". Don'r have to do the primer/foundation all the way down, just the powder. -

Sat, July 11, 2009 - 7:16 AM"Everything you do for your face, also include your neck." My mother's beauty advice is something I have always taken to heart.
The neck is one area that often gets overlooked when it comes to using moisturizers, sunblock, and during facials. Those night creams with a firming agent are great when you need a face lift in a jar. Don't forget your decolletage, especially when it comes to sun exposure.
A shorter hairstyle will certainly highlight your neck more often. A sweep of blush under your jawline will accentuate your neck or extend your foundation a little lower and blend it into your neck. Avoid high collars, wear scoop or v-neck tops. Shorter necklaces or wearing a small necklace will also draw the eye towards your face. I avoid black tops unless they highlight a lot of skin (tanks, halters, deep-v necklines) because the dark color so close to my face washes me out and makes my neck look old.

Sat, July 11, 2009 - 9:06 AMDepends on which angle you think looks good. I think a slight profile is good. Also, keep your shoulders pulled back and down to create more space around the neck and head. -

Sat, July 11, 2009 - 9:13 AMi say get your camera out, and take some pictures of yourself using different angles, wearing different colors... just dont take them in a mirror or if you do turn off the flash..lol... seriously i needed a picture to post here of myself, but had none of me by myself...i stood near a mirror facing the mirror, but the camera facing me, this way i could see my digital image in the camera in the mirror but the camera itself was facing me, just stretch arm away from yourself, too close is weird looking... or you could just get some tops/colors out, doll yourself up and have a friend take pictures of you... just after each pose look to see what your image looks like so you can remember the pose that works for you! -

Mon, July 13, 2009 - 2:40 PMGood posture. Shoulders back, but not raised, stretch your neck up, then gently back down to the horizon. Make sure the person taking the pic is standing far enough back. Also helps if they are taller than you, or from some slight angle above. Don't tilt your head. -

Tue, July 14, 2009 - 9:19 AMThanks, everyone. After some investigation, I think the biggest trick on my plate to learn is "don't put your hands in front of your neck."
It's crazy how many times I've been shot when my hands are blocking the view of my neck. And it's not just dancing either. Sitting at a table, holding a door… insane.

Thu, July 23, 2009 - 6:20 PMget to know your body. take time looking at your self at different angles with different expressions in a mirror... you will start to notice what looks good on your body and will start to naturally take those shapes and poses when a camera is around. We tend to frown on the vanity of staring at our selves in the mirror but it is the only way to learn what your body really looks like.
and tilt the chin up and smile a real smile -

Tue, July 28, 2009 - 8:47 AMI've been shooting dancers for years, but recently, I've started paying attention to the classes on FitTV. There are so many flattering ways to hold your hands out and away from your body, as well as to frame your face without obstructing your body.
